Your trailer wheels should not actually lock up. This is a common misunderstanding because locking the tires actually reduces traction and can cause more issues with your trailer tracking behind your vehicle. You do want your brakes to slow you as quickly as possible but you don't want them to lock up.
With the Prodigy P2 # 90885, the adjustment knob set to the max level is going to deliver the most power, but you want to also make sure you have the boost settings set to the max for... view full answer...
You are just going to need the proper wiring kit. It sounds like there are a combination of problems that are leading to the failures. There could be short and ground issues causing the lights not to work and the converter to blow.
First, lets look at what is going on with the motor home. If it has a trailer connector on it you will want to test it using a circuit tester such as # PTW2991. I have included a link to a help article that explains how to test it. If some of the circuits are... view full answer...
I think your gut is right in this instance. If makes sense that you would want the head part of a towing system to be level, but weight distribution, like your 6K Equal-i-zer # EQ37060ET, have to be set up a little differently since they are designed to bring everything back into level.
The installation instructions for this system are linked for you to check out, or you can share them with another trailer shop if you don't feel comfortable setting everything up on your own. view full answer...
First check to make sure that your iPhone is up to date on its iOS updates. Then check to make sure you have the most up to date version of the Curt Echo App in your app store. You will want to make sure that your Bluetooth connection is on and the Curt App has permission to use Bluetooth.
When you insert the Curt Echo # C51180 into your 7-way you should see a flashing blue light(vehicle needs to be running or ignition on and in park). If you see a red light or no light there is something... view full answer...
If you have a factory trailer wiring harness the first place you should check is the fuse box on your 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. In the engine compartment there is should be a yellow 20 amp fuse in terminal F29. This is the fuse that sends power to the parking lights on your trailer connector.
If the fuse is good or you do not have a factory harness you will want to determine if the fault is on the vehicle side or the trailer side. A Test Light # PTW2992 will help you to determine... view full answer...
If your 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee did not come with a factory installed 7-Way then if you plug one into the wiring at the back of the Jeep the 7-Way would not function. Like you already did, you would go to the dealer and have them reprogram the computer to get the newly installed 7-Way to function.
If everything was installed properly then it should work. If not then they may have made a mistake in the reprogramming process. Or, it could be that there is a fuses or fuses or even relays... view full answer...
I would start by inspecting your connector for corrosion or debris that could affect your connection points. If they need cleaned, I would give that a go and try the connector again.
Next, I would check your ground connections for corrosion, stacked rings, or if it's loosely mounted. A wire brush, reset or tightening down would be in order.
If that has not helped, using a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to test the pins on the connector where the wiring harness plugs into the truck is... view full answer...
There are a few things you will want to check before you resort to replacing the system.
First you will want to check for loose wires on the rear of the vehicle's trailer connector in addition to corrosion in the vehicle's trailer connector itself. After this is done you will then want to test the yellow wire at the back of the vehicle's trailer connector to ensure power is passing to the connector. If there is voltage present the problem is in the trailer connector and you will need... view full answer...
The most common causes for trailer lighting issues like yours are corrosion on one or both of the connectors or a bad ground connection at the car or trailer. The linked article may be helpful to you as you troubleshoot. When troubleshooting trailer lighting it is usually easiest to disconnect the trailer from the vehicle and test each individually.
Inspect both car and trailer side connectors for even slight greenish or whitish discoloration on the contacts. Clean as required; you can... view full answer...
The first thing I recommend is to check the pins on your trailer wiring harness on both the vehicle and the trailer. Look for any damage or corrosion and repair as needed. You may want to use a multimeter like part # PT89ZR and check the voltage output to the running light pins on the vehicle. You should be somewhere around 7 volts.
Then check the grounds on the running lights on the trailer. Look for signs of a pinched or damaged wire or possibly corrosion or loose ground wire on the... view full answer...
If there are only 5 wires at the vehicle side connector, then that could affect the Curt T-Connector Harness, # C55369. We have not heard of any problems with this harness and the Jeep Grand Cherokee, so I recommend using a circuit tester, like part # PTW2993, to test the pins on the vehicle side connector for the appropriate functions. You should have one pin for each of the following functions ground, left turn signal, right turn signal, running lights, brake lights and constant 12v power.... view full answer...
It's pretty common on the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee to have the dealer activate the tow package port due to trailer lights not working after the installation of a trailer wiring harness like a Reese Multi-Plug Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package part # 74682. The fuses are always the first thing to check but if you still don't have proper function you will need to take the vehicle into the dealer for service. view full answer...
Yes, the replacement 7-Way part # 42145 is a confirmed fit for your 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. If you are in need of a replacement 7-way this is a confirmed fit and connects easily to the factory trailer wiring port on the vehicle. view full answer...
If you are getting power to everything on the vehicle side, you will need to check a few things on the trailer. First and foremost will be the grounds. This should be done for every light and if they are LED lights, each should have its own designated ground connection that is not stacked with other grounds. This is a fairly common practice, but can cause some issues and it is better for each ground to have its own connection.
Next you will need to check the wires coming out of the 7 Way... view full answer...
I looked up your owner's manual online and the 12V power issue is likely a fuse issue. You will want to check the 30amp fuse number 16. This will be in the power distribution box under the hood. view full answer...
Did you install the rubber strip in the upper and lower channel of the crossbars? What you described sounds like you are missing that as these are aero bars and should not be whistling at all.
If there are any holes in the channel on the bottom or top of the bar they should be covered to get rid of the noise.
Or you can use a fairing like part # RRRF3 to direct the air over the rack. view full answer...
It sounds to me as if you are trying to say that you have power at the trailer connector but not at the trailer lights. If this is the case you most likely have a ground issue. I would start by checking all of the ground connections on the trailer and making sure they have good solid clean connections. Check the wire at the trailer tongue and check the tail lights connection to ground. Usually the tail lights are connected through their mounting hardware so you will need to make sure that... view full answer...
If the BCM is bad on your 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee then it will have to be replaced. There is no way around that. But if the BCM was bad you would have other problems as well. You can try a hard reset by disconnecting the vehicle battery for 30 seconds or so and then reconnect it to see if it recognizes the new hardware. If that doesn't work then either they do have to flash the computer (which is something that I am sure they do several times a day) OR it would mean that the Jeep didn't... view full answer...
It could be as simple as the connector not being pressed all the way together, but most likely that is not the problem so what you will need to do is test the pins of the connector that is on your vehicle that you plugged the part # HM40975 into for voltage when the taillight functions of your vehicle are applied like in the video I attached. You will need a circuit tester like part # PTW2993.
If there is voltage on those pins then the problem is either that the # HM40975 isn't connecting... view full answer...
Sounds like the red wire and the black wire got switched somehow when you rewired it. The red wire normally only sees voltage when the brakes are applied and if that circuit on your vehicle is instead ran to the black wire of the controller it will only power on the controller when the brakes are hit. view full answer...
